See Schedule for more information.
Is Practice Mandatory?
Recreational members can attend practices as their schedules allow; however, we encourage members to attend as often as possible. Practices are a great way to catch up with friends and meet new people.
Competitive members are expected to attend at least one practice per week. Failure to do so may result in losing eligibility to participate in tournaments.
What is the difference between a competitive and a recreational member?
Competitive members are placed on teams based on the ladder and travel to tournaments across Texas and other states. Recreational members join practices to socialize and hit with like-minded individuals.
See Join for more information.
Are there tryouts?
Yes!
But only for competitive members, recreational members do not need to worry about trying out for anything!
How Does Tryouts Work?
The ladder ranks all competitive players.
The ladder allows us to divide players into teams based on skill level. Your placement on the ladder determines which team you are assigned to. To move up, you must challenge, and defeat players ranked above you in ladder matches. More information can be found in the Challenge Rules document.
What are the dues or necessary payments to join?
See Join for more information.
What is the difference between tournaments and community tournaments?
Tournaments are hosted by other club teams, and only competitive members may participate if they qualify for one of our teams through ladder challenges.
Community tournaments are hosted by the Tennis Club at UTEP and are open to everyone. For more information about a specific tournament see Volunteering & Community
How do I sign up for tournaments?
If you have made it to one of the two teams, the President will send you more information about the tournament details.
How long are tournaments?
Tournaments are usually Saturday and Sunday.
We normally leave midday on Friday and comeback Sunday night. If the tournament is far away we will leave on Thursday.
Can I switch to a competitive member later or can I join mid-semester?
Yes, but it is best to be a competitive member from the start.
You can always change or join later, but joining midseason is likely to place you lower than if you tried out as a competitive member at the beginning of the season.
How do I sign up for community tournaments?
See Community Tournament Information under Volunteering & Community to learn more.
How long are community tournaments?
Community tournaments are hosted Saturdays and Sundays.
Community tournament duration depends on the number of players that registered. If the player pool is small, we will try to finish within a day (Saturday), if the pool is on the bigger side we will extend it another day (Sunday). You will be notified of the expected duration prior to the tournament.
