About the Club
Founded in 2009, the Tennis Club at UTEP is part of the USTA Tennis On Campus program and is also an active student organization at The University of Texas at El Paso. Throughout our 10+ years, the club has undergone many changes with each President building upon the work of their predecessor. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the club briefly disbanded before being brought back by then-President William Basquez. Since that time, we have expanded our goals and worked hard to become an active, integral part of the El Paso community.
Our Program
Development
One of our goals is to develop players beyond the court. We aim to ensure their time in tennis not only enriches their athletic journey but also benefits their professional lives.
Cooperation
We now count Chapin, Jefferson, Eastwood High School, and the 360 Tennis Program as community partners, with Tacos Don Cuco proudly supporting us as a sponsor.
Community
Since the COVID-19, we have worked to establish a strong presence in El Paso’s tennis scene. We prioritize giving back, building relationships, and fostering support.
Rec & Competitive Focus
By offering free tennis lessons during Monday practices, we have made tennis more accessible and inclusive not just for UTEP students but also the 915 community.
Our Mission
Tennis, tennis, tennis! Our mission is to make the sport accessible to the entire El Paso community. We aim to become the bridge between a traditionally selective sport and the public. Whether people play recreationally or competitively, we hope to spark their interest and help make tennis a meaningful part of their lives. For those pursuing competitive play, we strive to provide opportunities that support their growth and push them to the next level. Watching someone begin in our program and eventually transition to a higher level is a long-term goal we are committed to achieving.
